Mount Hotham and the adjacent Dinner Plain offer over 35km of cross-country skiing trails, providing a serene way to explore the stunning alpine environment. These trails cater to all abilities, with circuits ranging from 2km to 15km. Some trails start directly from Hotham Village, while others are easily accessed via the free village shuttle to Wire Plain, the primary starting point for many courses. You can also find trails around Dinner Plain, offering variety and beautiful scenery through snow gum woodlands and open plains.

The cross-country terrain at Mt Hotham is diverse, featuring undulating paths, gentle slopes perfect for beginners, and some steeper sections for those seeking a more challenging workout. The "Hotham Dinner Plain Trail," a 12km track following parts of the Great Dividing Range, offers magnificent views and a sheltered skiing experience. Other notable trails include those around Wire Plain, offering loops like the Possum Flat and Dargo Lookout Loops, and the picturesque journey between Hotham and Dinner Plain, passing through Paw Paw Plain.

For those new to cross-country skiing or wanting to improve, lessons are available through Traverse Hotham and Peak to Peak Cross Country Skiing. They offer beginner lessons, private tours, and bespoke instruction. Cross-country ski equipment can be hired from Hoys at their Hotham (Jack Frost and Village Centre locations) and Dinner Plain stores, as well as Ray's Ski Shop in Myrtleford. Exploring the cross-country trails is free, offering a fantastic way to enjoy the peaceful snowy landscapes away from the downhill slopes.
